Residency Education

The UH Division of Family Planning is proud to be a participating Ryan Residency Program. Residents complete an opt-out 8 week family planning rotation and complete a thorough didactic and clinical curriculum, with in-depth evaluation of knowledge and competency throughout. Prospective residents can learn more about the UH Department of Ob-Gyn Residency at http://hawaiiresidency.org/

  • Curriculum: Residency program graduates are expected to meet competencies in patient education and counseling regarding contraception and abortion, early pregnancy loss and IUFD management, and medical and surgical pregnancy termination. Residents will participate in didactic sessions regarding epidemiology, public policy, research and clinical care in family planning.

  • Research: The Family Planning division is actively involved in resident research mentorship. Resident research in family planning has included topics such as post-placental IUD placement in adolescents, emergency contraception pharmacist knowledge and pharmacy availability and LARC uptake among Native Hawaiian women.
